Amorphous Fe-2(B1-yZry) alloys, which are important as the
residual amorphous matrices in nanocrystalline Fe-Zr-B-Cu
systems, were prepared by rapid quenching from the melt for 0
less than or equal to y less than or equal to 0.55, The iron
magnetic moment determined by Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy and
magnetic measurements shows an unexpected initial increase when
Zr is substituted for B. This behaviour, together with the
uncommon crystallization sequence, is attributed to the highly
attractive B-Zr interaction.
